MATTA Fair

Event Date: 8-10 September 2017

The MATTA Fair will be held from Sept 8 to 10 at the Putra World Trade Centre.

“A total of 1,333 booths have been taken up for the event which is expected to generate RM200mil worth of bookings and related expenditure domestically,” Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) CEO Phua Tai Neng said.

“We are confident that holiday makers will find the best deals for their families,” he said.

Speaking to reporters at the exhibitors balloting session at Wisma MATTA yesterday, Phua said that despite the strength of the US dollar against the ringgit, members of the public had generally accepted the situation and were proceeding with their holiday plans.

The MATTA Fair, which will cover 24,000sq m, is one of the “choicest” platforms for travel and tour agents to display their products.

MATTA, Phua said, had 3,300 registered travel and tour agency members who would be taking part in the fair.

Travel agencies from Japan, South Korea, Macau, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Turkey are also coming.

For domestic travel, Sabah, Sarawak, Negri Sembilan, Putrajaya, Terengganu, Perak, Selangor, Pahang, Johor, Kedah, Melaka and Labuan have confirmed their participation.

Additionally, Sarawak has been selected as Malaysia’s Favourite Destination for the fair. The biggest exhibitor is Sabah Tourism Board with 16 booths.

MATTA Fair 2017

Event Date: 17-19 March 2017

THE upcoming Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) fair this March will be even bigger with an additional hall dedicated to domestic tourism.

The first event of the biannual MATTA fair will be held at Putra World Trade Centre from March 17 to 19.

Out of five halls featuring 1,403 booths, two halls (Merdeka Hall and Hall 4) will be accommodating about 300 booths for domestic products and services along with state tourism organisations.

MATTA chief executive officer Phua Tai Neng said MATTA played an important role in developing and promoting domestic travel.

“MATTA fair has established itself as a one-stop platform for value-for-money travel packages which appeal not only to Malaysians, but also expatriates in the country.

“With the encouraging response and participation from exhibitors and state tourism organisations, it is a strong indicator that they have confidence in the domestic tourism market,” said Phua after the balloting session for exhibitors of the domestic halls.

He added that there had been an increase of 200 domestic booths compared with last year.

The biggest exhibitor will be Tourism Malaysia, with a total of 60 booths.

“Tourism Malaysia will bring in smaller tour operators under them with the aim of promoting domestic travel,” said Phua.

MATTA has named Perak as the favourite destination for Malaysians among other states, he said.

“The three-day event in March is expected to attract about 100,000 visitors and achieve RM180mil in sales.

“Despite the economic concerns, people still need to travel and take a break, be it domestic or international.

“With 95% of the overall booths taken up to-date, it clearly shows the confidence exhibitors have in the tourism market, and I am sure the upcoming fair will be yet another successful event,” he said.

Visitors to the MATTA Fair will get a chance to fly to London on board Emirates airline.

The fair’s official airline is sponsoring a pair of return tickets to London as the grand prize for the MATTA Fair Buyers’ contest.

Those who make a minimum purchase of RM300 for internationl travel packages at the fair are eligible to take part in the contest.

Emirates is also sponsoring six single return tickets to other European destinations – Paris, Amsterdam, Prague, Budapest, Venice, and Zagreb through the Buyers’ contest.

The MATTA Fair, from March 17-19, will be held at the Putra World Trade Centre. It is open from 10am-9pm daily.

The daily entrance ticket is priced at RM4.
